Goalie Evolution Academy
Trevor Tierney and Ryan LaPlante have created the Goalie Evolution Academy, dedicated to the athletic and personal development of the next generation of field lacrosse goalies. The goal of the GEA is to make the goalie position as simple as possible. The GEA curriculum will train the foundation and core principles that each goalie will be able to rely on every time they step on the field. At each session, we will focus on form, technique, reaction speed, mental approach to the position, athleticism, and lacrosse IQ. A mastery of these skills in goal will provide goalies the opportunity to be successful and, most important of all, consistent in net.
Trevor Tierney is the only goalie in the history of the game to have won an NCAA Championship (with Princeton University in 1998 and 2001), an MLL Championship (with Baltimore Bayhawks in 2005), and a FIL World Championship (with Team USA in 2002). Trevor won the NCAA DI Outstanding Goalie of The Year as he led the nation in save percentage and goals-against average. He grew up learning how to play goalie from his father, Coach Bill Tierney, and all of the great goalies of that time including Larry Quinn, Quint Kessenich, Scott Bacigalupo, Bill Daye, and Sal Locascio. From that background, he created a curriculum entitled "Evolution In Goaltending" to help younger goalies which is available to watch for free on YouTube. Trevor also served as an assistant coach at the University of Denver for six years, where he coached goalies and helped guide the team to their first-ever National Championship.
One of Trevor's greatest proteges, Ryan LaPlante, grew up playing lacrosse in Colorado. Trevor and Ryan started working together when Ryan was 13 years old. Ryan grew into one of the top collegiate goalies in the nation at the D1 level, and led the University of Denver to win the 2015 National Championship. Ryan was a member of Denver Outlaws in 2015 and 2016. Ryan has taken what he learned from Trevor, adapted it to his own style, and built upon it to pass along to future generations of goalies. In 2017 and 2018 Coach LaPlante was a member of the University of Denver coaching staff as a goalie coach.
