USBOXLA Denver Box Lacrosse

The Denver USBOXLA box lacrosse program, powered by LXTC, is comprised of box lacrosse camps, clinics, tournaments and Denver Elite box teams. The Denver USBOXLA programs are hosted at both outdoor and indoor rinks in the Denver area. Playing box lacrosse is one of the reasons that young Canadian players have such great stick work and are dominating the game at the college and professional level. With the leadership of Matt Brown, who grew up in Vancouver, LXTC is now bringing that same box opportunity to young Colorado players. There is simply no better way to improve upon fundamentals, stick work, athleticism and toughness than to play box lacrosse. Through the various training programs throughout the year, top players are selected to play on the Denver Elite box teams that compete all over North America in the USBOXLA, the top club box lacrosse association in the country.

NOVEMBER / DECEMBER

DU PIONEERS WINTER BOX TRAINING SESSIONS-  SESSION I

The Pioneers are offering two sessions of box lacrosse training for players of all age levels. Box Lacrosse is the best way for young players to learn how to play the game. There are fewer players at one time on the box floor so players receive more touches with the ball; the walls keep the ball in play which naturally increases the tempo of the game; players develop their stick skills at an accelerated rate by playing in tighter spaces; and it is fun to play! The Canadians grew up playing mostly Box Lacrosse and it shows through their skill set on the traditional field of play. If you are dedicated to accelerating your game and learning excellent techniques and drills to improve your individual skills, then join us at the Apex Field House which has two full sized rinks with sport turf and is perfect for our training sessions during the winter season.

DU Pioneers Box Lacrosse Leagues and Denver Elite Box Teams are inaugural members of the United States Box Lacrosse Associate (USBOXLA). All participants need to have a USBOXLA membership.

For more information, go to our REGISTRATION PAGE or sign up for our EMAIL LIST. Registration and details are typically posted and emailed out six to twelve weeks before the programs start.

MAY / JUNE / JULY

DENVER ELITE USBOXLA BOX SUMMER TEAMS

The summer Denver Elite box teams are selected from the winter indoor sessions in November through February. These teams have approximately twenty practices throughout the spring and summer. Typically, the DE box teams play in one local tournament and travel to the biggest box lacrosse tournament in the world in the Calgary Canada Day Tournament and to the USBOXLA National Championship in California. Playing high level box lacrosse has become critical to overall success in lacrosse at the college level. LXTC highly encourages all of their players to play both field lacrosse and to learn how to play real box lacrosse in our USBOXLA sanctioned programs.

The LXTC teams include the Denver Elite fall club teams, the Denver Elite summer club teams, and the Denver Elite box teams. Players who make Denver Elite will work with an amazing NCAA Division I college staff. Players will experience practices that are very close to the ones that the DU lacrosse program goes through. Denver Elite will consist of top class coaching from the Pioneers' staff including former Team USA and MLL All-Star goalie Trevor Tierney and former MLL All- Star attackman Matt Brown. Teams and practices will be overseen and planned by six time national champion and Hall of Fame lacrosse Coach Bill Tierney. For more information on our coaching staff, go to their bios on the staff button above in the navigation bar.

We believe that coaching is a much bigger job than just teaching the game of lacrosse. We want the experience that players have with Denver Elite to be one of the best athletic experiences that they ever have. We hope to shape them into great lacrosse players and that this also helps make them great young men off the field. Finally, we feel that this is a great way to bring our community together in a way that we all enjoy! Most importantly, Denver Elite gives top players an opportunity to play for great college coaches, play top competition and have an amazing athletic experience.

Also, many of our players have dreams of continuing on to play lacrosse in college and we want to help them reach that dream. Denver Elite travels to the best tournaments in the fall and summer so that players get exposure to college coaches around the country. Also, due to the high level coaching staff, Denver Elite is a great way to improve your skill and knowledge of the game. Players will learn what coaches are looking for, what it takes to get recruited, and what they need to work on to be able to play at the top level in the game. We will help out our families and players in any way that we can with the recruiting process. Our competitors tell people that we only care about the players that we are recruiting for DU, but in reality that is far from the truth. We want to help all of our players as much as we can and help them find a suitable home in college.

Be clear though, that no elite team or tournament can guarantee that you will get recruited or play in college. That really comes down to the player’s work ethic and talent. At the end of the day, if a college coach thinks you are a good player and fit for his team, he will recruit you. If not, then there is not much we can do. However, we will give you many opportunities to prove yourself and teach you the best that we can to make you a better lacrosse player. The rest is up to you!

The strengths of Denver Elite include the following approaches:

1. We are professional, full-time coaches. We do this for our living. Our track record with our NCAA DU team is proof itself in our ability to coach. We care about the game and the young men that we get to work with and want to see them succeed, just as we have been fortunate enough to do in our own lacrosse careers.

2. Our kids and families love working with us! Check out our testimonials. People have a blast with our programs and we are always open to improving the experience.

3. We are the only team in Colorado that is a charter member of USBOXLA, a non-profit association dedicated to teaching American players the game of box lacrosse in the same way that it is taught in Canada.

4. Top individual recruiting tournaments from around the country ask for our recommendations. For the top level players, it is important for them to go to some of the showcase tournaments and many camps such as the Adrenaline High Rollers, Top 205 and many others come to us to get nominations for players.

5. We teach more than just lacrosse to our players. There are a lot of players out there that may not get recruited, so we realize that this Denver Elite experience might be one of the best lacrosse opportunities that a player ever has. We teach life lessons to our DE participants because we know that lacrosse is a great teacher for players to develop into mature young men.

DENVER USBOXLA BATTLE IN THE BOX TOURNAMENT

The Elite Cup - Battle in the Box tournament is typically held the third weekend in July. It is the only USBOXLA sanctioned tournament held in Colorado. The tournament began in 2013 under the leadership of Matt Brown, co-founder of USBOXLA, and founder of the Denver Elite box lacrosse program.  In it's first year, Denver hosted three clubs with nine teams in three divisions and has grown the tournament in just one year to four clubs with sixteen teams in four divisions.  The clubs participating in past years  were Cali-Lax (California), Jr. Stealth (British Columbia), Dragon Select (Texas) and Denver Elite (Colorado). In addition to the growing number of teams, you will find many former and current NLL players like Jamie Shewchuck, John Gallant, Matt Brown, and Shaydon Santos either coaching or observing play.

The tournament is held at APEX Field House located in Arvada, Colorado and Foothills Fieldhouse in Lakewood, Colorado.  In addition to the very high level of box lacrosse action, the participants can also attempt to "dunk their coach or peer" in the dunk tank located just outside in the venue parking lot, eat local food from the food trucks adjacent to the dunk tank, or bid on high end lacrosse equipment as well as Official DU Lacrosse memorabilia.
